5 tips for a well-organized nursery

It’s only natural to feel apprehensive and excited when expecting a baby. While you may never feel fully ready for when the day comes, you can at least get some peace of mind by creating a beautiful and well-organized nursery for your little one. Here are 5 tips for a well-organized nursery to make sure you have all you need.

Get the right amount of furniture for your nursery

To avoid ending up with a cluttered and poorly organized nursery, keep furniture to the bare minimum. In the first few months especially, you’ll only need a few items:

  • A crib
  • A changing table
  • A rocking or glider chair
  • A diaper bin

A great way of clearing space in the nursery is to use multipurpose furniture, such as a dresser that can double as a changing table.

Create functional areas

The first step is to set up areas for specific activities or tasks, ensuring you have what you need at your fingertips in each area. Examples of functional areas in a nursery include:

  • Reading area: keep your books here and maybe even install a lamp near a rocking chair.
  • Diaper change area: store diapers, wipes, a garbage can and some spare clothing near the changing table.

You should also organize the closet for practicality by storing items like diapers and pyjamas together. Keep the laundry basket next to the changing table and the wardrobe. Finally, keep blankets, sheets and a baby monitor by the bed.

Use baskets to store your baby stuff

Using baskets to store baby clothes, blankets and other accessories will ensure you have a well-organized room where everything is easy to find. You can identify the contents of each basket with cute labels, stickers or a marker.

Nursery decor

Once you’ve organized your storage, it’s time to think about decorating. A rug will be useful for when your baby is old enough to play on the floor. Choose curtains that will block out sunlight while your little one is napping. Decorate the walls with some beautiful framed artwork or posters, and consider using various lighting sources. The nursery should be bright but also soothing. Combine table lamps, night lights, hanging lights and more.

Future-proof your nursery

As your baby grows, your needs will change. Consider creating a room that will grow with your baby and opt for scalable furniture or multipurpose items.
